HGB Theater Ventures is a program funded by the Helen Gurley Brown Foundation to offer grants to develop new and innovative work for the American theater. Proposals for grants will be accepted beginning January 1, 2026. The deadline for applications is March 15, 2026 and decisions will be announced by April 20, 2026.
Spotlight Operator for Wonder! A Woman Keeps a Secret
Northern Stage, a LORT D 240 seat regional theater in White River Junction, VT, seeks a Spotlight Operator for their world premier of Wonder! A Woman Keeps a Secret. Northern Stage produces a mainstage season, an education season, a New Works festival, and 4-6 other events year-round. This position will be supervised by the Lead Electrician.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Operate a spotlight for tech rehearsals and performances.
- Maintain notes on spotlight paperwork.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge/experience running a spotlight preferred but not required (we can train if necessary).
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, collaborative, and communication skills.
- Ability to work on a 21-foot-high mesh tension grid.
- Capable of wielding the spotlight for the entire duration of tech rehearsals and performances.
Compensation: $17/hour
Contract Dates: 5/8/2026 - 5/31/2026
Job Type: Full time with nights and weekends as show run requires

Assistant Technical Director
Northern Stage, a LORT D 240 seat regional theater in White River Junction, VT, seeks an experienced Assistant Technical Director to join the full time staff. Northern Stage produces a mainstage season, an education season, a New Works festival, and 4-6 other events year-round. This position reports directly to the Technical Director and the Production Manager, and will work closely with Production Department Heads to help coordinate all production activity necessary to execute programming.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Work with the TD to draft construction drawings for all scenic elements.
- Help to manage build, load in, and strike for each show, working with the TD to ensure that shows are completed on time and on budget.
- Assist in maintaining shop equipment/inventory, and in keeping the scene shop clean and safe.
- Train shop staff in the use of shop equipment.
- Provide support for events outside the mainstage and education seasons.
- Act as part of a run crew if needed.
- Support other production departments as needed, and promote a safe and healthy work/learning environment alongside other staff.
Qualifications:
- Three or more years of professional advanced theatrical carpentry work. A combination of educational and professional experience will be considered.
- Proven ability to evaluate, budget, engineer, and execute complex scenery.
- Proficiency in CAD, Vectorworks, Microsoft Office, & Google Suite.
- Experience reading ground plans, light plots, and other theatrical specifications.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organization skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to approach challenges collaboratively.
- Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail. Experience managing and adhering to budgets.
- Thorough knowledge of and experience supervising theatrical safety conventions, OSHA regulations, rigging, and fire codes.
- OSHA General Industry 10-Hour and OSHA Aerial Lift Safety certifications are a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a box truck.
- Comfortable working at heights in excess of 20 feet in a lift and on a tension mesh grid.
- Ability to safely lift 75 lbs.
- BA or BFA in technical theater a plus.

Compensation: $48,000 annual salary, paid bi-weekly (overtime exempt)
Benefits: Northern Stage offers dental and life insurance and covers 100% of these premiums, and offers vision as an optional add-on with an employee contribution of $1/month. Accident insurance is available at an employee cost of $15/month. We offer an employee-funded 403(b) retirement account, an FSA, and pet insurance. There is a 60-day waiting period following hiring before Northern Stage benefits become active, with the exception of the 403(b) program which is active on the first day of employment. PTO: All full time Northern Stage staff members are eligible for Paid Time Off according to our PTO policy, which includes 12 vacation days annually, personal days, sick leave, and parental leave.
